Ministers to the Sick, Homebound and Nursing Homes

Homebound Ministry volunteers bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass, whether they are homebound, or in hospitals or nursing homes. Bringing the Eucharist to someone unable to attend Mass reinforces his or her connection to the St. Barnabas Parish community, and helps communicate that the parish community is concerned about and is praying for him or her. Ministers also provide comfort and company through extended visits and by bringing reading materials including the bulletin and Sunday readings and reflections.

If you would like to volunteer for this Ministry, no special skills or talents are required, but a special concern for the sick and a desire to bring comfort to the lonely and anxious are beneficial. More volunteers are needed and are welcome. For more information and to volunteer, please contact Deacon Larry Conway, 773-233-4228.

***If one of your family members is in the hospital or confined at home or in a nursing home, and would like Communion or a pastoral visit, please call the rectory, 773-779-1166, or Deacon Larry Conway, 773-233-4228.  Due to various privacy laws, doctors and staff can no longer notify the parish when a parishioner is hospitalized or confined.***

St. Barnabas/Spirit-in-Song Sing-a-Long Choir is a group of dedicated choir members from the St. Barnabas and the Spirit-in-Song Choirs who come together to provide outreach to the elderly of our community by providing interactive musical programs at retirement homes and skilled nursing facilities. The choir is open to anyone high school age and older. All who participate find this a fun and fulfilling ministry!

For more information, please contact Kitty Ryan at or 773-779-1166, ext. 226.
